Head Coach Profile: U12 Rocky Ditto
The Niagara North Executive proudly names Rocky Ditto as the Head Coach of the U12 Stars.  Rocky is a veteran coach with Niagara North, dedicated to the long-term development of elite youth athletes. Starting from grassroots hockey and progressing to the highest levels of AAA, Rocky is known for his commitment to building not only high-performing hockey players but also respectful and disciplined young men.  He's got a track record of successes in the regular season, playoffs and OMHA.

Coaching Background & Experience

Rocky has a extensive history of guiding players through the critical stages of the competitive pathway.

  • Total Experience: 14 Years

  • Levels Coached: AAA divisions from U10 through to U16.

  • History: Began his coaching journey in the Kiwanis Tyke division before transitioning into AAA, first as a parent coach and now as a long time non-parent coach.

Coaching Philosophy & Beliefs

"I believe that long-term development always outweighs short-term wins. Every athlete deserves to be seen for their potential, developed in all areas and pushed to reach their potential."

  • Continuous Improvement: Rocky emphasizes that making a team is just the beginning; players must be open to feedback, focussed on individual and team goals, and strive to improve all aspects of their game daily, both on and off the ice.

  • Leadership & Respect: He fosters a locker room environment built on a balance of discipline and fun with mutual support and respect for teammates and staff.

  • Character: A firm believer that the character built at the rink should reflect a player's character at home and in the community.

Proudest Coaching Moments

  • Player Evolution: Watching athletes he coached at younger ages grow into amazing players at the Junior and professional level.

  • Character Building: Taking the most pride in seeing his former players develop into respectful, successful young men outside of the sport.  There is nothing greater than when former players or opponents connect with you at the rink in later years.

  • Back to back silver medals at the OMHA Championships with the 2012 group.

Personal Profile

  • Family Life: Rocky is a dedicated husband and father, prioritizing family and the connections to hockey. He dedicates his time to his players, with the support of his wife, Kathy and kids, Taya and Nate, who also enjoy being at the rink supporting.

  • Interests: Outside of the rink, Rocky is a competitor in the CrossFit/Hyrox community. He spends significant time at his local gym, valuing the community atmosphere and high-intensity workouts to stay fit, focussed and energized.

Message to Families

Rocky's program is designed for players who want to be pushed to their maximum potential, in an environment that prioritizes character and long-term team development over individual successes or 'win-at-all-costs' mentality. Families can expect a coach who is deeply invested in their player's love of the game and growth both as a hockey player and as an individual.
